January 6, 2023, marks the 2nd anniversary of the Capitol Riot. This attack was made against the certification of President-elect Joe Biden. At noon Former President Trump held the "Save America March" in front of the White House. He called upon his supporters to march to the Capitol building, where the voting certification was being held in an hour. At 1:00 pm, Capitol police officers barricaded the surrounding area of the Capitol building after getting the order of impending protest. At 1:05 pm, after the barricades were put up, the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, called upon Congress to certify the votes of the 2020 election. This is the moment Trump supporters took action. At 1:30 pm, the protesters made their way through the barricades, up the stairs, and began their attack on the US democracy. Shortly after 1:30, more protesters made their way from the rally to the capitol building. At 2:00 pm, the supporters that were at the stairs of the Capitol gained access to the building by breaking windows and doors. At 2:20 pm, the Senate calls for a recess, and members of the Senate and house of representatives make their way out of the chambers of Congress. The building was officially under lockdown, and some members of the house were trapped inside the house chamber. At 2:38 pm, President Trump called for supporters to be peaceful, but the protesters stayed violent as they continued entering the chamber of Congress. At 3:00 pm, a few of the protesters officially made it to the Senate chamber. Those protesters make their way to documents of the senators working on certifying the votes. At the same time, the same protesters make their way to the speaker's office, where some staffers are hiding in break rooms. At 3:36 pm, President Trump calls the national guard to settle the ordeal. At 6:00 pm, the national guard and Capitol police cleared the interior and the outside of the Capitol building. At 8:00 pm, Vice President Mike Pence resumes the Senate certification process. At 9:00 pm, Nancy Pelosi reopens the house of representatives and continues with the certification process. Finally, at 3:42 am, the speaker of the house and the Vice President certified the votes for the 2020 election, despite the chaos, making Joe Biden the 46th President of the United States.
