Onvo has chosen Juniata High School to receive the ExxonMobil Alliance Grant, which is worth $500, to help support STEM education programs. They are very proud to support local schools through this program.

After receiving news about this program, an interview was done with Mr.Nace who is the teacher that will be conducting this course. We asked Mr. Nace to give us an overview of the new course. He stated that it was going to be called Electricity and Electronics. The course will cover basic components of electricity and the careers students can pursue within this field. Students will learn about the fundamentals of electricity, conductors and insulators, resistors and compactions, Ohm’s law, series and parallel circuits, multimeters, AC&DC, integrated circuits, diodes, transistors, and much more.

Mr. Nace was asked, “What positive impacts can we see for the school and for the students within this program?” Mr.Nace’s response was that, as a society we take for granted the use of technology and electricity without knowing how it works. With this course being in place, we will see an increase in the understanding about electricity and how it works. Overall, more people will be informed about how it works and they will have a great appreciation for it.

This program was chosen to be added to help broaden the career horizon. It will help those who take this class to know how to understand the basics of electricity and how to fix the problems associated with it. This program will also give students a more diverse career zone to potentially pursue in the future.

Some parents want to know what the course would look like as far as teaching and so would students. Mr.Nace said that in the beginning of the course there will be a lot of learning about safety that will be maintained throughout the course of the year. Students will explore the fields that they can pursue within this profession. There will be projects done throughout the year, starting with small basic projects like making breadboards. This course requires hands-on projects to help learn about the different components of the course. You also learn about these components in the lessons given in class.

This class isn’t given just for those who want to pursue a career in electronics and electricity, but it is for anyone who wants to learn about the basics of electronics and electricity. The course will engage people who just want to know how the world of electronics works and about how to fix small problems on your own. As Mr.Nace stated, “If we didn’t have electricity around us, what would our lives be?”

In conclusion, this course is being introduced to broaden our knowledge and career choices. As a final statement the Juniata County administration and staff would like to thank Onvo for this opportunity.
