During the month of March, it is important to remember all the incredible women who have left marks on our history. Since the beginning, women have had to undergo many struggles to gain equality. Even now, women are still pushing to get things like equal pay, and much more. It is important to reflect on the courage that many women have had so that we can continue to be strong and resilient. It is not easy to go against a society that doesn’t support you, but women have been dealing with this fight for a long time. In case you don’t remember the amazing women of our history, I have put together a list of six very important women. However, even though there are only six on this list, there are still many more important and special women who have done so much to contribute to the way that society is today.
Sally Ride (Born May 26, 1951, Died July 23, 2012):
Sally Ride was an inspiration to many women. She was a nationally ranked tennis player and was most known for being the first American woman astronaut in space! She was also a science professor and NASA planner! She was an incredibly intelligent woman.
Harriet Beecher Stowe (Born June 14, 1811, Died July 1, 1896):
Harriet Beecher Stowe, the author of the book titled “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”, was said to have sparked the Civil War with her ideas that favored abolitionism! Her thought process and writing helped people begin to see how slavery was wrong, and she wrote about many other things than just slavery.
Susan B. Anthony(Born February 15, 1820, Died March 13, 1906):
Susan B. Anthony is known for her extreme dedication to women gaining rights. Her influence was a large part of helping the Women's Rights Movement succeed! Sadly, she didn’t live long enough to see the culmination of the movement, but her help built the foundation for the future.
Harriet Tubman (Born 1820, Died March 10, 1913) :
Harriet Tubman was a remarkable woman. She was a Civil War spy, nurse, she fought for women’s rights and civil rights, and she is most known for being the conductor of the Underground Railroad that was used to help enslaved people escape and be safe. There are no words to describe how amazing this woman was!
Amelia Earhart (Born July 24, 1897, Died July 2, 1937):
Amelia Earhart was a very inspiring woman because of her career. She was a pioneer aviator who was able to set many records dealing with flight. She was one of the best pilots. In 1973, she had disappeared, but her image and influence have not. She had goals and she, for the most part, met them!
Catherine the Great (Born May 2, 1729, Died November 17, 1796):
Catherine the Great was the ruler of Russia from 1762 until 1796. She was a very fair, strong, and admirable ruler who did many great things for Russia. She expanded it to the shores of the Black Sea and to Central Europe. She was very powerful and a true inspiration.
