Happy Winter!

With the first snowfall comes a score of interesting winter activities for you and your family to participate in! Winter can seem like a cold and dull season, but there are actually many opportunities to get outside and have fun in nature! This winter, keep an eye out for any local activities such as:

  • Cross Country Skiing —  This aerobic activity is the perfect way to get your winter exercise in. Cross country skiing is a little difficult to learn, but once you get going, it is just like riding a bike. This sport is the perfect way to have a bit of fun during your winter workout.

  • Sledding — This activity is an amazing way to get your family outside and have fun in the snow. Not only is it easy to find a suitable hill, but you can also fit many people in just one sled, increasing the participation.

  • Skiing — The winter sport of skiing is special in the way that it allows you to quickly maneuver through a forest. There are also many mountains throughout Pennsylvania that are operated specifically for skiing. These are prime destinations for family fun. From the exhilaration of the speed, to the flops and tumbles on the slopes, skiing is a one of a kind winter sport!

  • Ice Skating — Finding a family-owned pond or a frozen section of the river to skate on can be a world of fun. Sliding across the ice with your family can result in Christmas cheer, and a little bit of perfect chaos. Just remember to test the ice’s stability before you begin skating!

  • Snowshoeing — If you have a passion for seeking out peculiar sights in nature, snowshoeing is for you! Snowshoes allow you to move quietly through the forest and give you the opportunity to witness winter wildlife up close.

  • Hiking — Winter mornings are known for their beautiful sunrises and crystal- like trees. A hike up a mountain early in the morning can be a great way to connect with family and friends.

So if you or your family are looking for an exciting winter adventure, keep a look out for some of these fun activities near you. There are always ways to connect with nature; you just have to explore your area. Enjoy the snow!
