February 1, 2025 Dear Juniata County Families, Friday morning, the Juniata County School District, in collaboration with our transportation partner, Rohrer Bus, became aware of an inappropriate sign being displayed on one of our school buses. Please know that we took immediate and appropriate action to address the situation. We are currently investigating the incident thoroughly and are ensuring that all necessary steps are taken to prevent something like this from happening again. It is important to note that this contractor did not represent the values or standards of the Juniata County School District. We remain fully dedicated to providing a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all of our students, both on and off the bus. Sincerely, Christie L Holderman Superintendent Juniata County School District FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Rohrer Bus Addresses Incident Involving Racially Insensitive Note Found on School Bus February 1, 2025 – Duncannon, PA Rohrer Bus has been made aware of a racially insensitive note that was discovered on one of the school buses serving the Juniata County School District. This bus is owned and operated by a separate entity, but initial reports referencing the source of the note as “owner/management” create the perception that this note was authorized by representatives of Rohrer Bus. We want to make it explicitly clear that Rohrer Bus did not author or endorse this statement in any way. Such language and sentiments are entirely contrary to our company’s values and commitment to fostering a respectful and inclusive environment for all students, families, and staff. As Juniata County School District’s transportation management partner, we have been working closely with District officials to swiftly investigate. As a precautionary measure, we have suspended the transportation provider involved pending the outcome of the investigation. We recognize the seriousness of this situation and the impact it may have on our community. Rohrer Bus is committed to taking proactive steps to prevent such incidents in the future. We will be implementing additional training programs focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion for all Juniata County School District transportation providers to ensure that the buses remain safe and welcoming spaces for every student. The Juniata County School District will be operating on a three hour delay on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

Dear Families, With the significant drop in temperature today and tomorrow, we want to make you aware of the potential impact on road conditions and ensure the safety of our students and families. Temperatures are expected to fall well below freezing, with wind chills making it feel even colder. This could result in icy conditions on roads, sidewalks, and bus routes, particularly in the early morning hours. Please dress children in layers, including warm coats, hats, gloves, and scarves. Allow extra time for travel, as delays are possible due to weather conditions. If your road is impassable, this situation does constitute a reasonable cause for absence from school. We will continue to monitor weather updates and make any necessary adjustments to school operations, including delays or closures, if warranted. You will be promptly notified through our usual communication channels should any changes occur. You may be wondering why we have not cancelled for today. We have driven on many of the back roads and determined that our state and township crews have cleared them thoroughly. We have also monitored both the actual temperature and real feel and it has not met the -10 degree threshold we usually use as a guide for closing. It is impossible to check every road in the county so if your road is impassable, your child would be excused for their absence from school. An additional concern is the fact that students have not been in school since last Thursday. The schools are able to provide lunch and a warm place for those that may not have that in their home situation. The Juniata County School District will be operating on a 3 hour delay on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. Please make sure to dress appropriately for the extremely cold temperatures.

Due to the water main break in Richfield, East Juniata Elementary School is closed. There will be no activities at the school today.

There will be no school for students on Friday, January 17, 2025 for an Act 80 Day and no school on Monday, January 20, 2025 for observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Due to a water main break by the band room door at JHS, the surrounding area is icy. Please use caution around the workers and drive extremely slow.

The Juniata County School District will be operating on a 2 hour delay on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Tuesday, January 7, 2025 will be day 6.

The Juniata County School District will be closed tomorrow, January 6, 2025 for a snow day. This is not an FID. There is no school for anyone tomorrow and all activities are cancelled. Enjoy the snow and stay safe!

The Juniata County School District will be operating on a 3 hour delay on Monday, December 16, 2024.

Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Tuesday, November 26, 2024 from 2-8pm. There is no school for students. If you need information for a conference, please contact your child's teacher. Schools are closed through December 2, 2024 for Thanksgiving Break.

Reminder: Schools are closed on Monday, November 11, 2024 for Veteran's Day.

Bus 45 is running approximately 15 minutes behind schedule today, October 25, 2024, due to mechanical issues. Another bus is on its way.

JCSD Families: All schools will be operating lockdown drills over the next two weeks. The drills will be held in the morning and emergency vehicles may be on site.

Reminder! Friday, October 18, 2024 is an Act 80 day. There is no school for students.

Good evening JCSD families, The Pennsylvania State Police conducted a safety check for registration, seat belts, license, etc, at Juniata Elementary School this morning. There were many cars present with lights on at the entrance to the school. There was no emergency at JES this morning. In the future you may see emergency vehicles at any of our schools throughout the school day. Sometimes they are just visiting and conducting a walk-through. Other times they are there for an emergency situation. Please know that in the event of an emergency we will provide information to you as soon as we can but there are times that it is not appropriate to send information out immediately. This afternoon at dismissal there was an adult experiencing a medical emergency at East Juniata Elementary School that resulted in the delay of dismissing our students on school transportation.
